I just assumed everyone knew this, but a call from my daughter earlier made me realize that younger people may not

My daughter had a lightbulb shatter and it was stuck in the floor lamp, she didn't know how to get it out. I told her to unplug the lamp, stick a potato on the remaining part of the element and screw it out, she thought that was an amazing bit of advice.

I could have sworn she had seen me do this at some point in her life, but she didn't recall

So, if your lightbulb is broken and stuck in the lamp, unscrew it with a potato :)

Public Service Announcement- Please do NOT attempt to then cook and eat the potato. :<}

Well, that is a new one for me, KM. Thanks for the info. I know it has happened, but don't recall how my husband got it out of the socket. :)

I have actually heard that before.

Courtney- if you leave the lamp plugged in when doing this, the potato will cook itself!
