View Full Version : Would you pay $50 for a coupon class???????

kind of defeats the purpose of saving doesn't it?

I understand paying a small fee to cover time and material costs, but for a person to charge let's say $50 a head for a class, to me that is pure greed, especially if we are taking this class from someone that is just a coupon user like the rest of us!!!!! Now, if there were some sort of masters degree involved from the college of coupons, maybe I would consider it, but as far as I know, nobody has one...it's all about learning your stores and watching the deals ya'll!!!!

I don't know, perhaps I am in the minority, but seriously, all the information is out there on the net for free and it's not like there is any secret formula on how to use coupons....clip, match and shop.

I am sorry but there is no way I would recommend or endorse anyone that would try to profit off something that we are all breaking our butts trying to show people how to do for free!!!!!

Feel free to disagree with me, I don't offend easily :)

I once attended a 4 hour class that a friend taught. Each attendee received -
18 page printed manual of basic coupon information
goody bag
snack & drink
& inserts!

All for $15, I felt the price was reasonable for everything given. Most classes I've seen charge Free - $15. Anything more than that is too much.

Think of all the stuff I can get for $50 at Rite Aid or Walgreens...*daydreaming*...Anyway, yeah, no, not gonna pay $50 for a class.

No and I'd feel pretty damn bad about charging $50 for a class too...

That's high! I guess if they provided you with a binder and some coupons and then taught you, then it MIGHT be worth it... that's crazy though... So many free sites to join for FREE, like us! :)

Oh I agree that is crazy! I posted on my blog back when that ebay seller was posted selling "info" not to every pay for it. I put a link to HCWT and told them they can get help for free here! :) @ JH

I would totally not pay that! However, I think some people who "want" to learn- think that by paying a fee, everything will be spoon fed to them and suddenly it will make sense and be easy. Not the case, as we all know! Kinda like those diet pill commercials, "Take this pill once a day with no change in your diet and lose 80 lbs like THIS guy (flashing picture of super hot guy)"

Like Delissa said, I think I would be more ashamed to be the person CHARGING $50.

I agree with you Kelly, This couponing thing is mostly common sense and simple math. I learned more about coupons by just talking about them than I ever did in workshops from prepared text/presentation.

Omg no way! I was going to do one and charge $2 a person to cover the cost of paper and ink for the packets but I felt so bad for charging that I did it for free.

I think that going to a class is not necessary. When I wanted to learn I went online and found out everything that I know now by myself and the helpful people on forums like this. Unless a class is free I wouldn't waste the money.

$50!! Shame on them. They know darn well that it doesn't cost that much for paper ink and their time. How long is the class. Can't be more than an hr. I sure would like to be paid that hourly rate!

I no longer charge for any training, Remember folks we go to these things to SAVE money so why would you start your frugal ways by wasting $50.00. If you want to learn to coupon for free stick around forums and blogs like this one. It will be free and a good time with good people. If you are shy and don't like posting contact me at neal@stlcouponwizard.com for a free one on one on line workshop. Spend your $50.00 on your family and do not give it to a nut working to get every thing they can from the recent surge in coupon use.

$50 is a joke! I can see paying $10 as it is a class and we would be paying at least $10 an hour for a class for a child. I am actually teaching a class for community ed and they charge a minimum of $19 for the class even if I got no pay. ARGH. There is nothing I can do as they have the facility I need for a class 35-40 minutes away from where I am doing them now for free.

I can't imagine paying $50 for a class! I've been asked to do a class, but I would never charge $50!

well its for a class to teach about saving and the use of coupons, what is the point of the $50 then? thats not saving us anything, thats like handing the teacher $50 worth of coupons for him to use instead of ourselves and families.
i can understand maybe $15 to $20, for like a 3 hour course, hands on activities, a binder, a printed handy manual on the basics,
maybe that seems more worth the time for me. it gives me an insight.
but $50 is a little out of hand for alot of people. if i didn't know about coupons i would be the dumbie to pay for the $50 just to learn oh i could have saved myself $50 if i didnt have to attend this class when i could have learned online myself. like i am doing now.

I am an avid supporter of Head Start, I live in a very low income state and the program is wonderful for early childhood education, all 4 of my kids were in the Home based program and I eventually became a Home Visitor myself.

Ok, I have to play the devil's advocate here. How many of you would work a job for $2-$5 an hour. With the current unemployment rate perhaps this person is trying to make a living or add to their income to pay their bills. I have been approached by several people to teach classes. I tried a time or 2 for free and it was very frustrating for me, people don't seem to take "free" seriously and pay attention. Most of them wanted me to spoon feed them info. My feeling on this was next time I teach a class it will be to earn an income for me. I lost my job 3 years ago due to permanent arm damage. I can't find a job now because of the economy and my arm restrictions. My dh has diabetes and is 90% deaf. He owns his business which started taking a big nose dive, due to economy, shortly after I lost my job. We are both about 7-8 years away from retirement and may lose it all before we get there. Couponing allows us to eat with little budget. So would I attend a $50 class, no, I'm self-taught 30+ years. Would I charge $50 for a class, absolutely! If people are willing to pay that to learn maybe they will take it a little more seriously or realize it's too much work for them and not even try. Either way I believe it would help the cause and not add to the problem of uninformed or ill-informed novice couponers.

Also, I am not so naive as to believe there aren't people out there teaching couponing incorrectly. But this happens in any field even in schools, colleges, etc. It's a fact of life.

I think it's a hard debate.... I might charge $50 for a class, but I would surely provide something extra like a starting binder or something.... It's just we have fabulous websites like this, that can totally help and it's FREE :)

I like your reasoning and personal reasons,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but As you know couponing is easily self taught people, just needa kick in the butt and a little support. Being on the already couponing side I may be using hindsight and knowing that this is simple and there are thousands of people like what we find here that are more than happy to help anybody with learning. Plus we coupon to save money and a little pre work by a person wanting to learn would discover this. The people that are try to sell a dvd for $50.00 are crooks and are taking advantage of the economy and peoples misfortune. I do understand what you are saying and don't think bad of you for your thoughts but I'm on the other side on the fence on this one.
