Did you know that the USDA recently released new dietary guidelines?
Here is the Press Release (http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/Publications/DietaryGuidelines/2010/PolicyDoc/PressRelease.pdf)
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes early last month while I was in the hospital for gall bladder surgery. My diabetes has some genetics to blame, but it is mostly due to living a totally unhealthy lifestyle. I wasn't much of a sugary food snacker, but I ate large meals full of potatoes, biscuits, red meats, tons of carbohydrate filled (the unhealthy ones) and fat filled over sized meals!
My doctor recommended I watch Forks Over Knives on Netflix and the movie really inspired me! I am slowly moving to a plant based diet. I have cut meat out of my diet, but for now I am choosing to keep the dairy. I am exercising, a lot! In just a little over one month my weight has dropped from 276 pounds to 243! Plus, my blood sugar is completely under control! In just a little over a month I have dramatically improved my health!
I intend to keep a blog sort of thread in this forum on my progress. Every day I am learning new things about nutrition. Just a few weeks ago the only thing I really knew about food is what tasted good, and that is not an exaggeration......I am 47 years old and am having to learn everything about staying healthy. If my adventures and progress can help just one person that reads it I will feel I have done something worthwhile. If it only helps me, it's still worthwhile :)
I encourage anyone that is overweight, or has high blood sugar, or high cholesterol or has any other nutrition related problems to please join in me in this adventure of healthy living!
