They pulled the Katy Perry clip (http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/a-line/sesame-street-pulls-controversial-katy-perry-duet/624)from Sesame Street.

What do you think-should they have pulled it or left it?

I watched the clip and really, maybe I am just not as bothered by stuff, but I didn't think her outfit was that bad...I think most of the "haters" are probably more upset over her "I kissed a girl song" and letting that fuel their feelings. I let my grandkids watch tv all day here, sprout, Nick Jr and sometimes Cartoon Network, if that clip had been playing while they watched Sesame Street I don't think I would have turned off the tv.

Ok, let me start off by saying, I love Katy Perry. I think she is adorable and has a quirky personality.

I understand her dress might be a LITTLE revealing for a kids show, but honestly, when you are out in public, you see worse stuff than that... you know what I mean?

She could have worn a more conservative dress, I agree, but to take it off the air because of it? I think is a bit dramatic.

I don't see anything wrong with it. They should've just left it. Some people just aren't happy unless they are complaining.

I don't really have a problem with it. I do think she should have chosen something a bit more conservative, and I can't understand how Sesame Street didn't foresee this happening. As soon as I saw the clip yesterday, I told DH it was going to have parents up in arms!

I may not have complained, but the dress was a little much. Sure you see worse in public, but here's how I think about it. When Bella sees something in public that I disagree with and notices it, I can tell her that not everything someone wears or does is appropriate. When she sees it on Elmo's World, it's different because I LET her watch that, giving her the implication that whatever she sees there is acceptable.

A lot of people go around saying, "well that's just the way the world is", to me that kind of thinking is WHY things are the way they are. This might sound OT, but you know that song, "waiting on the world to change"? I freaking hate that song, know why? Because I believe that is EXACTLY what's wrong with this generation...they are just waiting for someone or something else to change the world for them! That isn't how it works! "Be the change you wish to see in the world"- Ghandi (a smarter man than I ;)) I may not change everything by monitoring, paying attention, and putting my opinion in with my child, but I can help shape my child to not to just accept "the way things are" and if I can accomplish that, well...then I think I'll have done alright. :)

A costume designer & wardrobe dept should be taking the rap for this incident if involved.

What's the first way to get publicity for a show? Tape something and then let it be known it won't be aired. Especially involving a popular celebrity.

I don't blame Katy for this. The ones making the segment should have known that parents would be upset.

Completely agree Delissa and well said!

There are murders and drugs out in the world too...but I don't go exposing my kids to them! My DD got a glimpse of a Britney Spears video once and for three weeks wanted to roll her shirts up....very impressionable!

A video of Katy Perry singing Hot and Cold with Elmo for Sesame Street appeared a few days ago on the Web, and it seems it won’t be appearing on TV. It seems Perry’s breasts and cleavage are too much for preschoolers.

The Katy Perry Sesame Street video, which you can see below became a sensation on the Web, but many people felt that it was “too sexy” for children. It seems the producers of Sesame Street have taken this into account and will only release the video via Youtube.

This was the statement released by “Sesame Street”:

“Sesame Street has a long history of working with celebrities across all genres, including athletes, actors, musicians and artists. Sesame Street has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver. We also value our viewer’s opinions and particularly those of parents. In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on You Tube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on You Tube.”

What do you think? Too racy for Sesame Street?

Very true Faith! Why is it ok for a puppet to have cleavage and not Katy Perry? LOL

It is a childrens show and the dress was not appropriate for a childrens show!
Just my opinion!

Thanks!

Love the song. Don't care about the controversy. Figure the producers did the right thing by pulling it; if it's going to cause grief why not just ignore it? Their a freakin' kids show, they have better things to worry about than pushing the edge. Some might say "But...freedom of speech!". I don't really care in this case. Go watch southpark if you care that much about it. Oh, and I have seen more cleavage at a football game hundreds of times, and I bet plenty of kids watch those.
