Its a reality show that follows one family who is struggling with the economic recession and trying to make ends meet. They are a blended family with 7 kids. They lost their house and are living in a rental home but they can't afford that anymore so they are looking to move again. I just got teary eyed because one of their kids just sold an autograph glove that he loved so they could make their rent and a few of the other kids went dumpster diving for cans and bottles.

I have been watching this- I want to like it- but episode after episode I get angry with them too! This family doesn't even begin to know about being "hard off"- on the episode where they visit a financial advisor, they spend HUNDREDS a month eating out. And the mother can't give up her Starbucks fancy coffees because they help make her feel better. Maybe its just me but if I couldn't pay our rent and my kids were being buried in the stress of that burden, I would find a way to get over my loss of Starbucks!
Geesh....off my soapbox now

I feel sorry for the children of the people who find themselves in situations like this. It's the kids who suffer. But like Carla said, these people on this show are not "hard off". If they have the means to spend hundreds eating out and Starbucks, they are not even close to being hard off. People who are hard off have no food in the pantry, no gas in their car and no money at all in their pocket.

I agree! I feel so bad for the kids because the parents have borrowed so much money from them but I hate seeing the mom with a starbucks in her hand all the time. I'm glad they cut back on alot of things but there is still more that they can do. I was proud when the mom called and cancelled the cable. And I'm sorry but $145/month for cheerleading...that would have been gone a long time ago.

Exactly! Seriously though, the Starbucks thing makes me so angry!
I also think they place a lot of burden on their kids. The kids are all older, and while I agree its important that the parents explain to the kids what's going on and such (and I think this situation will hopefully be a huge learning experience for the kids) sometimes I think they burden the kids too much. I understand they are old enough to help work around the house and get side jobs, but the constant talking about how they should be out finding work for the family and such is a bit too much.

Carla, glad I didn't see this show or I would have been miffed too!! Does she use coupons?

The financial advisor told them that they needed to start using coupons. He said that he was working with a family that just got $350 worth of groceries for $67. I kinda wish that they sent one of us to straighten them out!

What really made me mad was that she got a $1000 bonus from work and spent it on new clothes for the kids!
