As you can imagine I get my fair share of weird looks from checkers and managers when I enter a store and at the check out. At first I thought it may be my cowboy hat or the sunglasses but no that’s not it. It may be that they just like me, Okay maybe not. Some of my favorite ones are the looks I get at the counter, but not at just any counter or with just any checker. I love working with the older generation, yes older than me. There are some that came out of retirement to return to work, little did they know they were going to run into me on the other side of the counter. Well they wanted to work again so I guess I am just the person to help them out with their quest and test their customer service skills.

I was not able to post the entire story because it contained a lot of HTML code, I hope to get it posted here but until then click here (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com)to read on

One of my Favorites is an elderly very small lady with salt and pepper hair that must have lost her teeth on the way to work every Sunday. When I reach the check out she always looks across the counter up at me with that look that says “Oh you again”http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1553_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1553.gif) as she licks her gums as if she is getting ready to teach me a lesson on coupon usage. Now this checker has questioned a coupon or two but has only tried to rejected one of my coupons once. When I check out I never hand the checker my coupons until I am ready to, I hold on to those babies as long as I can before I give them up. This checker refuses to quote me a total price before the coupons are scanned so I always ask her for a total. I like to get any possible problems in the prices taken care of before the coupons, I guess she is not much interested in my progress on each transaction. After scanning my purchase she just stands there looking at me as to say “Bring them on” http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/275_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/275.gif) . So I hand her the coupons in the order I want them scanned. She looks at each on as if she was reading them but she’s not fooling this wizard. I know she can’t see that fine print because when I use a B1G1 she not only needs to stand on her tippy toes to see over the receipt printer she also strains to read the receipt to get the price to put on the coupon, no way she can read the fine print on the coupon. So she picks up each coupon and inspects the picture and often will look in the bag to make sure I purchased the correct product and then scans the coupon. We all know that often the scanner will not always pick up the bar code on the first scan, when this happens she looks up at me with that look saying “It’s not going to work” http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1377_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1377.gif) I just smile as if we are having a good time because at least one of us is and it’s not her. She’ll try once more and will normally get the coupon to scan and then moves onto the next coupon. She works her way through the coupons and then waits for the RRs to come out of my envelope which she knows will happen. Once again I want to know what the total is at that point and once again I ask and get the look “Give me a freakin break”http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1497_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1497.gif) from her but she does quote me the price. I then give her the RRs and if I’m using more than one she will quickly scan all but the last one. She then hits the total button on the register for the current total. I then give her a look as to say “Touché” http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/5472_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/5472.gif) . This is her last chance and She knows that I like to keep my oop very low and she also knows that just a couple cent mistake on my part will cause the last RR to be rejected and she loves to see me scramble to make a deal work my way. Well if the last RRs does not work I get that look “You big dummyhttp://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/17113_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/17113.gif) , now what you going to do”http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1549_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1549.gif) Well if you know me you understand that I do have a back up plan, Buy some more candy till I get the price I want. She just does not understand how I can add candy bars to a purchase and get a lower price http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1502_thumb.png (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1502.png), after each change in the transaction we check the running total and as mentioned she hates to hit that total button unless it is her idea. Well when I get the total to were I want it I tell her “I’ll pay that” and once again I get a look “Your darn right you will”http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1412_thumb.png (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1412.png) she says with her eyes. So I give her a few pennies and smile, She gives me my change and the receipt then turning towards the next in line as if there won’t be any register Rewards printing. She knows me and knows better to act stupid with me on RRs but tries each time to see if I will leave with out the RRs. She will then pull the RRs and inspect each, neatly stack them and hand them to me and close the interaction with “Thank you, have a nice day”http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/9357_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/9357.gif) At least I think it is her saying that, I guess it could be a recording triggered by a foot switch or something. I mean I just spent several minutes having all of my precious coupons fondled and inspected by the coupon police http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/10310_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/10310.gif) and then she closes with a smile and a verbal closing, some thing is wrong there. Now this lady just said more words in the last 3 seconds of our interaction than she said the entire 4 or 5 minutes we spent together during the transaction. She did write a book with her looks though.
Now as if the checkers are not enough fun if you piss of the checker you end up with a manager. Yeah you got it, Mr. Jerk
http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/WHB59_thumb.jpg (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/WHB59.jpg)
This guy does not need a smilie, his mug says it all. But what the hell lets see what this guy has to say about coupon users. First of Mr. Jerk does not like to be bothered with things like coupon users http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/10294_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/10294.gif) he has better things to do tucked into his office in front of the computer screen watching these people, these low life coupon users on the in store cameras. When he is called to the front Register he never arrives happy.http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/164_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/164.gif) This man lives to crush the sprit of the average coupon user and in fact has done just that to many of the weaker of heart http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/184_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/184.gif) , But not me, no I welcome the challenge of his senseless babble about his imaginary coupon policy and how he is not in business to give things away. Simply because all of us smart people know that he is in fact in business to give stuff away and we show up every week to pick it up which is the reason for his poor attitude http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/193_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/193.gif). At first the manager may seem to think/act as if he is above it all, That his trip to the register to deal with one of the coupon low life is just a bothersome chore that as a manager he must deal with http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1375_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/1375.gif) from time to time.
. http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/225_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/225.gif)
But he quickly learns that we coupon users are much smarter than your average box of rocks, we come prepared to do battle http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/8014_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/8014.gif) with policy in hand and a determination that he could not have prepared to deal with. We know the rules better than he and am not shy about educating him on them, he may not take it well at first but in the long run it will make him a better manager. He will at first be calm, collected and have quick somewhat logical responses, but that will soon fade to a short temper and loads of complete nonsense pouring out of his mouth http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/8024_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/8024.gif). Don’t let it bother you though, keep your composure and politely inform the gentleman that he is a complete idiot and that he will correct the problem at hand http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/7988_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/7988.gif) . These manager/customer interactions are my favorites, the management always informs us that we don’t understand how the coupon thing works but they nearly always seem to give us what we want. Why does it work out like that if we don’t understand you may ask. The reason is WE DO KNOW WHAT THE HELL WE ARE DOING, it is the management that does not understand the coupon thing. So stand strong and be prepared to pull out the big guns in your battle http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/8009_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/8009.gif) . Management is wasting their time, just http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/7996_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/7996.gif) if they think we will fall for their silly ideas about how coupons work and what the rules state. Show them all a couple of our looks, ones that say WE WON! http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/10210_thumb.gif (http://editorials.stlcouponwizard.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/10210.gif) , we were right and we will return. Most of all show them a look that says it all, one that they need to learn.
