I was thinking about a family that has several heavy burdens to bear at one time. And I admire their trust in God through the burdens that they must bear. Not everyone would be so trusting in God. But we do know that God is not only with us through all the hard things in life that we must bear, but that he brings good from them. We grow so much in holiness through all these difficulties. They give us the opportunity to be like Christ and to be with him throughout eternity! I came across a little poem that expressed this idea that God brings good from all the hard things in life.

There's a Reason

For ev'ry pain, that we must bear,
For ev'ry burden, ev'ry care,
There's a reason.

For ev'ry grief, that bows the head,
For ev'ry tear-drop that is shed,
There's a reason.

For ev'ry hurt, for ev'ry plight,
For ev'ry lonely, pain-racked night,
There's a reason.

But if we trust God, as we should,
It all will work out for our good,
He knows the reason.

Today I came across the refrain of a hymn (Text: Enrico Garzilli, 1970) that reminded me of how God can bring good from the hard things in life and form us into the image of Christ.

For to those who love God,
Who are called in his plan,
Everything works out for good.
And God himself chose them
To bear the likeness of his Son
That he might be the first of many, many brothers.
